Fire sweeps over Mijas Mountains



A fire is devastating large amounts of forest land behind the Pueblo village of Mijas, Costa del Sol.
The fire started around 7pm on Thursday the 4th September and seems to be spreading down the mountain near to San Anton, Los Osunas and Bueno Vista.
Due to is location fire fighters seem to be not in control situation yet.
The fire can be seen from Calahonda, Riviera del Sol, La Cala de Mijas, Mijas Costa, Fuengirola and Las Lagunas.
The fire could also been seen live from the Mijas Costa Webcam some 7 miles away in La Cala
Update: The fire is still seen to burning at 7am on Friday 5th but has almost been totaly extinguished with only small pockets of fire remaining.
Local police soft the evacuation of over 300 local residents from the Buenavista urbanisation in the town overnight.
The local sports centre at Las Lagunas is being used as a reception centre for the people.
10 fire-fighting units and a team of 70 people continued to work against the flames overnight, while the Mayor of Mijas, Antonio Sánchez, told the press that the fire had been started deliberately.
No news of loss of property or life have been reported.
